What is false pregnancy ?
False pregnancy is a very common condition affecting entireun-neutered or un-spayed female dogs.
False pregnancy usually occurs around 6 - 10 weeks after the end of a season and is associated with the production of the hormone prolactina hormone released from the anterior lobe of the pituitary gland that stimulates the secretion of progesterone by the corpus luteum and initiates and maintains lactation.. This hormone causes her to produce milk and behave as if she has puppies. For this reason, the condition is sometimes also called a "phantom pregnancy".
